One Crew, Start to Finish

Design It. Build It. Done.

Most landscaping companies either design or build. They hand you a plan and leave, or they show up with a crew and wing it. Red Agave does both — we design your entire property and build it with our own crew, start to finish. One company, one point of contact, one vision carried from the first site visit through the final walkthrough. That is the design-build model, and it eliminates the communication breakdowns, material mismatches, and finger-pointing that plague projects split between a designer and a separate contractor.

A full yard design-build project starts with understanding how you live: how you use your outdoor space, what you want more of, what frustrates you, and what your property’s specific site conditions demand. We assess sun exposure, drainage patterns, soil composition, existing trees, views, and privacy. From that foundation, we develop a cohesive plan that addresses every square foot — not just the patio or the planting beds, but the entire composition from property line to property line.

Our scope covers everything: concrete and masonry, xeriscape plantings, steel planters, FCOB lighting, pergolas, outdoor kitchens, fire features, drainage, irrigation, grading, and every detail in between. We’ve been doing this in Austin since 2009. Schedule a free consultation to start your project.

Our Process

How It Works

01
Site Visit & Discovery
We walk your property, assess conditions, discuss your vision, and understand your budget. This is a conversation, not a sales pitch. We listen first, then recommend.
02
Design Development
We create a comprehensive design that addresses the full property — zones, materials, plantings, lighting, drainage, and infrastructure. You see the plan before anything is built.
03
Material Selection
Stone, concrete finishes, steel details, wood species, plant palettes — we select and source every material. You approve selections before we order. No surprises.
04
Site Preparation
Demolition, grading, drainage installation, utility rough-ins, and soil preparation. We build the invisible infrastructure that determines how well everything performs for decades.
05
Construction
Hardscape, structures, steel fabrication, electrical, plumbing, and carpentry — all executed by our crew. One team on site means coordinated work and consistent quality.
06
Planting & Finishing
Xeriscape installation, irrigation, mulch, lighting commissioning, and final detailing. We walk the finished project with you and make sure every element is right.
Common Questions

Design + Build FAQ

How much does a full yard design-build project cost?
Full property projects range from $25,000 for focused front or backyard transformations to $150,000+ for comprehensive estate-level work with pools, pavilions, kitchens, and premium materials. Most of our full-yard projects fall in the $50,000 to $100,000 range. We work with your budget and can phase larger projects to spread investment over time while ensuring each phase stands as a complete, finished space.
Why design-build instead of hiring a designer and contractor separately?
When design and construction are separate, the designer creates a plan without intimate knowledge of construction realities, and the contractor builds without understanding the design intent. Details get lost in translation. Materials specified in the plan aren’t available or don’t work in the field. Budgets blow out because the designer didn’t price their ideas. Design-build eliminates all of that — we design what we know we can build, at a price we’ve already validated.
How long does a full yard project take?
Design development takes 2 to 4 weeks depending on project scope. Construction timelines range from 4 weeks for a focused backyard to 8 to 16 weeks for comprehensive full-property projects. Factors that extend timelines include permitting (pools, structures), custom steel fabrication, and material lead times for specialty stone. We provide a detailed schedule before breaking ground.
Do you work on new construction homes?
Yes. New construction is ideal for design-build because we can coordinate with the builder during construction — roughing in gas lines, electrical conduit, and drainage before the slab and foundation work closes up access. We’ve worked with custom home builders across Austin to deliver landscapes that are ready for move-in rather than an afterthought that takes another six months to finish.
